Whole Blood Metals & Minerals
Evaluates red cell or whole blood levels of 10 essential minerals to support clinical assessment of nutritional status and mineral balance. Red cell testing reflects intracellular mineral status over the approximately 120 day lifespan of the erythrocyte, offering a longer term view of mineral stores. Whole blood testing reflects more recent circulating levels. Results may help evaluate mineral status in patients following a restricted diet or presenting with symptoms associated with mineral imbalance, such as fatigue, muscle cramps, or altered immune or cognitive function.
Specify red cell or whole blood on the requisition. Results are analyzed by ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry).
