Systems Support Technician

We are a growing laboratory in Shoreline, Washington with a wonderful group of employees and are seeking a candidate to work in our clinical testing facility to join our dedicated Laboratory Equipment and System Support team as a Full-Time on-site Systems Support Technician. Our tests have helped thousands of people around the world to better health with no use of medicine. Our clients are Naturopaths, Medical Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, and other health professionals who will provide their patients with guidance based on our test results. POSITION TITLE: Systems Support Technician

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The primary role for this position will be to work in our Lab Equipment and System Support Department and report to our System Support Manager.   We are looking for a detail-oriented, results-driven Systems Support Technician in a fast-paced environment to support the US BioTek Laboratory Equipment and System Support Group in robotic process automation and systems maintenance. Willing to understand existing processes and systems, and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. The Systems Support Technician will be responsible for problem-solving under general supervision, support, and maintain all laboratory equipment. Tasks may include support of existing systems, new systems implementation, and associated documentation tasks. Activities may range from the development of a new system to performing scheduled maintenance of existing systems. Systems Support Technician may develop requirements, test plans, and perform testing. Participate in field data collection and experimentation, analysis, and reporting.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Systems Support Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment.

  • Investigate failures or unexpected maintenance problems, speak to users to get to the root of their problems, follow up to ensure the issue is resolved.

  • Understand and implement the overall technical vision for projects, programs, or systems, keeping in mind cross-functional impacts, integration across the organization, and architecture rationalization.

  • Work closely with the team to implement and document automation solutions that align with the laboratory needs and consistent with the architectural vision.

  • Provide development and testing support, and follow the implementation of standards and best practices in alignment with USBTL architecture patterns.

  • Identify the educational needs of laboratory staff, develop an educational or training program, and teach or instruct others.

  • Prepare standard operational procedures for system usage, document robotic application development, maintenance, or changes.

  • Testing and evaluating new technologies, new applications, and procedures.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate Degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or relevant work experience in electrical and/or mechanical engineering.

  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills as well as the ability to prioritize competing priorities in a complex and fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.

  • Demonstrate skills in shaping and leading the development of technical specifications.

  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills.

  • Exceptional communication skills - written and verbal.

  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to operate a computer with requisite typing skills and spend a significant portion of work hours viewing a computer screen.

  • Ability to both sit for extended periods.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to bend, squat, and reach to locate, retrieve, and organize materials for extended periods.

  • Fine motor skills, including knowledge and ability to use hand tools requiring fine motor skills.

  • Visual Acuity and ability to see and manipulate small parts within electronic equipment such as within computers and robotics machinery.

  • Laboratory environment - possible exposure to chemical, biological, or other hazardous substances.

  • This position requires working in a laboratory environment and wearing personnel protective equipment (PPE) which may include wearing a lab coat and face shield for long periods of time.
