Systems Support Technician

We are a growing laboratory in Shoreline, Washington with a wonderful group of employees and are seeking a candidate to join our dedicated System Support team in our clinical testing facility as a full-time on-site Systems Support Technician. Our tests have helped thousands of people around the world achieve better health naturally. Our clients are Naturopaths, Medical Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, and other health professionals who provide their patients with guidance based on results from our tests. POSITION TITLE: Systems Support Technician

This position will work in our Lab Equipment Department and report to our Equipment & Plan Manager. We are seeking a detail-oriented, results-driven systems technician to support the US BioTek System Support Group in a fast-paced environment in robotic process automation and systems maintenance. The ideal candidate must understand existing processes and systems and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. The systems support technician will be responsible for problem solving under general supervision, and support and maintain all laboratory equipment. Tasks may include support of existing systems, new systems implementation, and associated documentation tasks.  Activities may range from development of a new system to performing scheduled maintenance of existing systems. The systems technician may assist in developing requirements, test plans, and perform testing and participates in field data collection and experimentation, analysis, and reporting.


The Systems Support Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Identifies hardware and software issues with possible solutions
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment
  • Investigates mechanical failures or unexpected maintenance problems, speaks to users to get to the root of the problem, and follow up to ensure issue is resolved
  • Understands and implements overall technical aspects for projects, programs, or systems—keeping in mind cross-functional impacts, integration across the organization, and architecture rationalization
  • Works closely with team to implement and document automation solutions that align with the business needs and are consistent with the architectural vision
  • Provides development and testing support, and follow implementation of standards and best practices in alignment with laboratory architecture patterns
  • Identifies the educational needs of laboratory staffs, develops educational or training programs and, teaches or instructs others on technical equipment-related topics
  • Prepares standard operational procedure for system usage, documents robotic application development, maintenance, or changes
  • Tests and evaluates new technologies, new applications, and procedures applicable to the laboratory environment
  • Provides support to Systems Support Staff, Lab Technicians, Senior Scientists, Laboratory Manager, Quality Assurance Officer, and VP of Lab Operations


  • Associate Degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • Knowledge or experience in instrumentation and/or computer programming
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills as well as the ability to prioritize competing priorities in a complex and fast paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
  • Demonstrate skills in shaping and leading development of technical specifications
  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills
  • Exceptional communication skills—written and verbal


  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to operate a computer with requisite typing skills and spend significant portion of work hours viewing a computer screen
  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, squat, and reach to locate, retrieve, and organize materials for extended periods
  • Fine motor skills, including knowledge and ability to use hand tools requiring fine motor skills
  • Visual acuity and ability to see and manipulate small parts within electronic equipment such as within computers and robotics machinery
