Are there any food restrictions prior to testing?
Sorbic Acid (Sorbate) and Benzoic Acid (Benzoate) preservatives are advised to be avoided for 48 hours. Below is a listing of common sources:
Sorbic Acid/Sorbate
(Sorbic acid, potassium sorbate, sodium sorbate or calcium sorbate). A common food preservative found in baked goods, chocolate, soda fountain syrups, fruit cocktails, cheeses, jams, jellies, fruit wax.
May interfere with Benzene analyte. Variable amounts are converted to trans,trans-muconic acid (ttMA).
Benzoic Acid/Sodium Benzoate
Sodium benzoate is a preservative found in margarine, soft drinks, maraschino cherries, mincemeat, fruit juices, pickles, relishes, jams, jellies, sweets and baked goods, preserved foods, pickles, lunch meats, cranberries, topical creams and toothpastes.
May interfere with Toluene analyte.
